“Floppy” – ebook

“Floppy” cover – Polish edition, designed by Cris Loghin

“Floppy” (Polish title: “Plaskatek”) is the title of an interactive e-book with my text an illustrations, designed and implemented in ReadKid Wizzard by Cris Loghin, published by Wydawnictwo Otwarte. You can get “Floppy” through ReadKid, an iPad application, designed for kids and parents. It was created by Woblink,  Polish platform selling e-books. You can read more here. This week ReadKid was released on iTunes and you can already reach to the virtual shelves of this app to get some cool, interactive e-books in Polish and English.

So, this is how my story begins: “Once upon a time a little boy appeared deep in the heart of an ancient Furniture Forest. How did it happen? Nobody knows. Maybe he got lost, or maybe somebody forgot about him during a move? One thing is certain – when the lanterns found him, he was sitting in a small wooden box on wheels, laughing and glancing around curiously. He wasn’t a bit scared”. (transl. from Polish > Borzobohata, Wydawnictwo Otwarte).

The illustrations were painted with acrylic on canvas paper. The storyboard (one page beneath) helped to establish the interactive pieces of illustration, some of them had to be painted separately. Here you can see some screens.

The e-book is filled up with steaming kettles, blinking lamps and other interactive pieces, like the Pillowls, above. ReadKid Wizzard, still in beta version, allows for rather simple effects, but kids seem to enjoy the experience.
