Tent, enlightened in the dark of night, gives the perfect illusion of safety. We create a micro universe, just for a night, that preserves us from danger and chaos. Here is two of my latest paintings, with tents.
I love these, Joanna! I am continually impressed by your sense of light… Here’s a ceramic tile that I made in Thailand last year that relates to these. Happy painting!
Anyway, your paintings immediately reminded me of it. I like them both so much for very different reasons. The first painting feels so communal and cozy, and the second one feels like magic realism and ephemeral. Anyway, the way you use light makes me want to understand how to paint it better. Thanks for sharing these and I look forward to seeing more! <<>>
When I was five my whole family had to abandon camp because I was eaten alive by midges. Just me, out of six people. In your beautiful picture I am basically represented by the tent! It makes me smile.
I like the first one, but the second one is magical! π
thanks! π I want to make an animation based on this one, that could be creepy and awesome
Reblogged this on The Sofi's World.
Like! A lot! π
Excellent, Joanna !

Truly magically, I want to jump into the picture!

Woah, sweet! I love it, great colours and mood, do you have more of these?
Thanks, Joanna! That tile was part of a guesthouse I helped to build in Mae Sot, Thailand. Here are some others: http://pinksphinx.wordpress.com/2011/11/04/ceramic-tile-blues/ I hope to post more of what we made there soon.
